Sentio University, a nonprofit graduate institution in Los Angeles, and its clinical training partner the Sentio Counseling Center, offer one of the most rigorous supervisor training opportunities in the country. The Deliberate Practice (DP) Supervision Residency is a one-year, mentor-intensive program designed for licensed California supervisors who want to transform their clinical supervision practice using evidence-based methods. Rooted in the same Deliberate Practice methodology that defines Sentio's Master of Arts in Marriage and Family Therapy program, the Residency provides over 50 hours of video-based training in the Sentio Supervision Model, a comprehensive approach to improving therapist outcomes through structured skill rehearsal, personalized feedback, and clinical outcome data. What makes this program unique is Sentio's commitment to radical transparency and continuous improvement at every level. Just as Sentio's MFT students receive weekly video-based feedback on their clinical work, supervisors in the Residency receive weekly feedback on their own supervision sessions. This parallel process, where everyone from trainees to supervisors to faculty engages in ongoing skill development, is central to what sets Sentio apart from traditional therapist training programs. The Residency draws on peer-reviewed research and the APA-published book series The Essentials of Deliberate Practice, co-edited by Sentio leadership. Prospective MFT students exploring graduate programs in California are encouraged to learn about the Residency as an example of how seriously Sentio takes the quality of its supervision. You can visit a live class, meet current students at an in-person residency in Los Angeles, or review our institutional data and finances on our Transparency page. Supervisors interested in applying can find full details and the application form on the Sentio Counseling Center Residency page.
