Practicum at the Sentio Counseling Center
Sentio MFT students get guarantee practicum placement into the Sentio Counseling Center (SCC), an online practicum site that specializes in serving clients with trauma. We guarantee students over 500 hours of clinical experience that can be counted toward licensure in California.
We encourage people who are considering applying to Sentio to attend and observe one of our weekly classes, so you can see if Sentio is a good fit for you. Applicants should ask to visit a class for every graduate program they are considering applying to. This is best way to cut through the marketing and see what a graduate program is really like!
The SCC is the first training program to integrate Deliberate Practice and skill rehearsal into its training and supervision. Grounded in the principles outlined in the American Psychological Association published book series, "The Essentials of Deliberate Practice," this approach provides students with a systematic and focused method to hone their therapy skills. This deliberate and purposeful practice contributes to a dynamic learning environment where students can observe tangible improvements in their therapeutic capabilities over time.
Supervision
Complementing the emphasis on deliberate practice, students at the SCC benefit from expert supervision that is unparalleled in its quality and effectiveness. Supervisors, who have undergone a Sentio Supervision Residency, engage in a comprehensive review of client videos with students. This collaborative and constructive feedback process ensures that students receive specific insights and guidance from seasoned professionals. The structured supervision model, featuring two hours of group supervision, one hour of individual supervision, and an additional hour dedicated to couples therapy each week, creates a supportive framework for students to apply their learned skills in real-world scenarios, fostering a well-rounded and outcome-driven approach to therapist training.
“My group supervision has been incredibly beneficial. I have really enjoyed how the time is structured and spent. I have learned so much from my peers and especially from Lynndal.”
- Peter Awad, counselor the Sentio Counseling Center
