Sentio University MFT students developing counseling competencies through supervised Deliberate Practice exercises

What to Expect as an MFT Student at Sentio University in Los Angeles

Sentio University's Master of Arts in Marriage and Family Therapy program is a 20-month hybrid graduate program based in Los Angeles, California. Students take weekly online classes via Zoom and attend three intensive in-person residencies per year in Los Angeles, where they engage in concentrated Deliberate Practice skill rehearsal, lectures, presentations, and individual advising. With cohorts capped at 16 students and a 4:1 student-to-faculty ratio, Sentio provides a level of personal mentorship and feedback that is rare among MFT programs in California.

Starting in their second semester, students gain supervised clinical experience at our guaranteed practicum site, the Sentio Counseling Center, an online training clinic serving diverse, low-income clients throughout California. Students are guaranteed over 400 hours of direct clinical contact, all of which count toward LMFT licensure in California. Each week, students see individual and couples clients, participate in individual supervision, triadic supervision, and group supervision, and receive video-based feedback from faculty and supervisors who have completed advanced training in Deliberate Practice. Sentio is also the first graduate program in mental health to formally implement safe and ethical AI training for students, drawing on original research published in leading scientific journals.

As a nonprofit institution, Sentio is committed to radical transparency about its operations, finances, and outcomes. Prospective students are encouraged to observe a class, attend an open house, and review our tuition, fees, and scholarship information before applying. Applications for the Fall 2026 cohort are open now.

“The SCC has been different as it has a lot of hands-on training each week which allows our skill set as therapists to progress throughout the entire year. Many of my peers advise that they only get training within the first beginning weeks of their practicum but SCC gives us training year around which is amazing.”

“Working at Sentio compared to the other sites I have worked at has been a much more supportive and structured environment. Sentio also provides great supervision with videos of our client sessions which allows you to pinpoint different skill deficits and work to make them strengths.”
