Spring Semester MFT552: Theories & Models II (CBT & Schema Therapy), Wednesdays 9am-12pm PST

$1,500.00

Wednesdays 9am-Noon Pacific Standard Time, Spring Semester 01/20/2026-04/10/2026 (12 three-hour classes)

Professor: Alex Vaz

Theories & Models II provides a practice-oriented exploration of evidence-based therapeutic models, beginning with a comprehensive introduction to Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and progressing into training in Schema Therapy. In the first half of the course, students examine core CBT principles, including the cognitive model, thought records, behavioral experiments, and strategies for identifying and restructuring maladaptive thoughts and beliefs, while engaging in extensive experiential practice to consolidate these skills through role-plays and structured feedback. The second half of the course builds on this foundation by introducing Schema Therapy’s conceptualization of early maladaptive schemas and internal “schema modes”. Students learn to assess and map clients’ schema modes, formulate treatment goals, and apply schema-informed interventions such as parts dialogues and imagery rescripting to support healing in challenging cases such as complex trauma and personality disorders. Through a combination of theoretical instruction, extensive video demonstrations, and experiential deliberate practice exercises, students develop the skills to apply both CBT and Schema Therapy flexibly and responsively in clinical work.

Sentio University is now offering a limited number of spots for licensed therapists and graduate students from other institutions to audit select semester-long courses. This is a unique opportunity to engage with the innovative Sentio Deliberate Practice curriculum, experienced faculty, and dynamic learning environment—without the commitment of full enrollment.

  • Learn cutting-edge methods grounded in Deliberate Practice and experiential training.

  • Observe live clinical demonstrations and receive faculty feedback.

  • Join a community of engaged, forward-thinking therapists.

  • Stay current on theory and technique without the pressure of assignments.

  • Deepen clinical skills in a low-stakes, high-value environment.

“I have really been enjoying the course. It's quite different from my grad program. In my program there were a lot of lectures without rich clinical examples, or certainly without videos. There was little practice. There certainly were occasions where we watched clinical videos, and occasions where we practiced, but that seems like it was a relatively small part of the program. Certainly nothing like Sentio.” - Audit Student at Sentio
